Qualifying: Ferrari lock out

The final round of the FIA GT Championship at Estoril in Portugal might feature an intriguing title fight between the 2001 champions Larbre Competition and 2000 victors Lister, but in Saturday's Superpole session it was Ferrari that ruled the roost

In the title race, Larbre's David Terrien heads erstwhile team-mate Christophe Bouchut by two points, while Lister's Jamie Campbell-Walter and Nicolaus Springer lie a further 3.5 points adrift in third, so it's all to play for on Sunday.

But the Ferraris of Andrea Piccini and Jean-Marc Gounon stole the show in the Superpole session. Campbell-Walter was best of the rest, ahead of the second Lister Storm of Bobby Verdon-Roe, who slid wide at the final corner on his lap.

Poleman Piccini said: "We did a very good job with the set-up and the time came quite easily. Now we are out of the championship race, our aim is just to win races."

Gounon said: "With the success ballast I am carrying, the time was perfect. We have a red line at the front of the grid, and that is what we set out to do."

Campbell-Walter said: "We've had pole both times we've been here, but it's a tricky track to set your car up for. Our car feels really good, the lap was good in Superpole. We're scratching our heads as to why we're so far behind them."

Fabrizio Gollin (Carsport Holland) was the fastest of the Chrysler Viper's in fifth, ahead of Fabio Babini (Belmondo Racing).

Neither of the Larbre Vipers made it into the Superpole session, with the Bouchut car failing the ride height test anyway. The second Carl Rosenblad/David Terrien/Sebastien Bourdais car will start seventh, with Bouchut and Vincent Vosse starting in the middle of the pack.
