Murray Aims for Racing Return
Famed Formula One car designer Gordon Murray is aiming to make a return to motor racing within the next few years, according to a report in this week's Autosport
Murray left McLaren after 18 years of service last December and is now in the process of setting up his own car company - which he hopes will allow him to make a return to racing action.
"The plan is for the new company to be operational early next year," he said. "We aim to do exactly what we set out to do with McLaren Cars. That is to build cars and do anything else that takes our fancy."
He added: "I really enjoyed going sportscar racing with the McLaren F1 GTR, and I would love to go back, hopefully within two or three years.
"If we did a GT car, we would think about racing during the design stage, which wasn't the case with the F1 (McLaren's high performance road car)."
Murray earned legendary status in F1 as the designer of successful Brabham Formula One cars and the dominant 1988 McLaren MP4/4.
