McNish fit for Germany
Allan McNish has been declared fit to race at this weekend's second Le Mans Endurance Series round at the Nurburgring following his accident at the Le Mans 24 Hours earlier in the month
The Scot will re-join Germany's Pierre Kaffer that brought Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx a 1-2 finish in the opening LMES race at Monza last month. This weekend though, the duo are looking to go one better as they attempt to upset the advantage held by team-mates Johnny Herbert and Jamie Davies.
"I was advised to rest after my Le Mans accident, but received a clean bill of health from the doctor on Monday, and am now feeling 100 per cent fit," McNish told his website. "I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.
McNish has a raft of experience at the Nurburgring, including a race there with Toyota while he was in F1.
"My first race at the Nurburgring was in 1988, in the GM/Lotus EuroSeries, while my last was just two years ago, at the Grand Prix of Europe with Toyota," he revealed. "I actually raced an Audi R8 there in 2000 - the year I won the American Le Mans Series title. My co-driver then was Rinaldo Capello, who will be one of our strongest rivals in Saturday's race, and he started from pole-position. I took over from 'Dindo', but aquaplaned off the flooded track... I'm hoping for much better luck on this occasion."
