Konrad disqualified from pole
The Konrad Motorsport Lola-Ford B2K/10 has been disqualified from the pole position it won on Saturday afternoon after failing its airbox test in the post-session scrutineering checks
The decision means that all the efforts of the team's German driver Ralf Kelleners, who had dominated the session, have been wasted, and the car will have to start today's race at the back of the SR1 grid, down in 11th place overall.
Team boss Franz Konrad said: "The FIA technical people are satisfied that we have done nothing untoward, and I'm not entirely happy with the test that was carried out. But it's happened, and I've accepted the decision. Maybe a small bit of dirt broke the seal slightly in the airbox, because this car has been sitting, unused, in the workshop since February. We'll start 11th, but I don't think that is a big problem."
The team's final preparations for the race took place in the 20-minute Sunday morning warm-up, with the track still wet. Jean-Marc Gounon set the fastest time in the dying minutes of the session in the Kremer Lola, just ahead of Giovanni Lavaggi's Ferrari-Judd 333SP.
