Kolby signs for Ascari

Knutsford-domiciled Dane Kristian Kolby has signed to race with the Ascari sportscar squad for a series of races which include the classic Sebring 12 Hour and Le Mans 24 Hour events

Kolby starts his testing duties at Snetterton this week with a brief shakedown before flying off to compete at Sebring on March 16. A race winner in Indy lights last season, Kolby will also contest selected rounds of the FIA Sports Car Championship and the American IMSA series.

"I am really happy about this deal, which will see me return to Le Mans with a team that are constantly growing and improving," said Kolby, who previously raced a Cadillac at Le Mans. "I think we have a realistic chance of a top five finish. They have got some impressive plans and there is no reason why, that by the end of the year, we can't challenge for overall top honours".

Kolby will team up with American TJ Bell and South African Werner Lupberger at Sebring. Ascari team principal Ian Dawson said: "Kristian fits in well with our plans, as he is an ambitious young racer.

"Apart from obviously being very quick, he is also a willing team player, which is important for long distance racing. I have watched him come up through the ranks and am excited to have him involved with Team Ascari," he added.
