Fri, final free practice: Pirro top

Points-leader Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela put themselves on top of the Petit Le Mans timesheets in the final free practice session before Friday afternoon's single qualifying session. The pair led a works Audi one-two, with Tom Kristensen and the other title contender Rinaldo Capello less than two tenths behind

Behind the two factory R8s, Panoz took third and fourth, with the Magnussen/Brabham car edging the patched up Graf/Lagorce machine.

Fifth in a cloudy and cool hour-long session was taken by the Weaver/Leitzinger/Forbes-Robinson Riley & Scott, which outpaced both private Audis in sixth and seventh. An 'on it' Stefan Johansson made sure it was the Gulf car ahead of the newer-spec Champion machine of Herbert/Wallace.

In the GTS class, the Konrad/Borcheller/Slater Saleen led the way, ahead of the fastest of the Corvettes - the Pilgrim/Collins/Freon C5R.
