ELMS qualifying: Lemarie Most fastest
Patrick Lemarie took his first European Le Mans Series pole in Stefan Johansson's Audi R8 in the fourth round of the championship at Most in the Czech Republic. It was something of a foregone conclusion since the only other opposition was the Lanesra Panoz (the ex-Den Bla Avis chassis with the Le Mans low downforce aero package) and a brace of LMP 675s
A heavy shower prior to the morning practice session prompted many teams to switch to a wet set-up but a dry line emerged in time for qualifying. "We tried a different set-up today and I felt I could really push the car," said Lemarie. "We're really focussing on the race tomorrow after our disappointments
at Le Mans and Estoril."
Czech F3000 star Tomas Enge came out two seconds adrift in the Lanesra Panoz, with the quickest of the LMP675s just seven tenths of a second behind. Jordi Gene took the wheel of the ROC Reynard-VW for its seasonal debut.
"I have a bit of an advantage because I've already raced here twice," he said. "But it was in a truck, so we were only just touching 160kph on the straight."
Bruno Lambert put the RML Saleen S7-R on GTS pole, although a gearbox problem prevented him from going out later in the session to try to better his time. The US muscle car still massively outgunned the only other GTS runner: Franz Konrad's Porsche 911 GT2 with IMSA veteran Charlie Slater at the wheel.
"We had a good set-up so I thought if I could put a good lap together straight away we should be good for pole," said Lambert. "It was quite an achievement after the party the organisers threw last night. This is a really good track, very exciting to drive."
Robin Liddell went quickest of the GT runners in the PK Sport/Ricardo Porsche 911 GT3-R, but spun at the tail end of the session as he tried to go quicker still.
"Fortunately there's no damage to the car," he said. "We tried a new set-up this morning but pretty much ended up with what we had at Estoril. I was trying to go a little bit quicker than the end and spun, but it was only at low speed. The tyres seem to be OK [drivers have to start the race with the tyres they
qualified on]."
