Dallara will build Chrysler sportscar
It has emerged that the sports-prototype currently under development by Italian race car manufacturer Dallara will run under Chrysler colours in 2001
According to this week's Autosport magazine, Dallara's sportscar programme had been developed as a customer car, but manufacturers had also been wooed to fund an exclusive chassis. With Chrysler stepping in, this means that works team ORECA, which mastermind's the company's Viper racing programme, will not now be building its latest Le Mans challenger..
The ORECA team persuaded Chrysler to take them into the top prototype division at the beginning of this year, using a pair of Reynard 2KQ chassis with a Mopar-badged engine. But the disappointing performance of the Reynards led ORECA to announce that they would build the team's challenger in succeeding years.
However, the team have taken what one insider reportedly described as a 'common sense decision' to take on the Dallara programme. The Italian make has plenty of sportscar experience with the Ferrari 333SP programme, and Chrylser will gain an exclusive chassis rather than relying on a customer car.
