Bobbi and Biagi Donington win reinstated

In a remarkable about turn, the FIA International Court of Appeal has annulled the decision to exclude the Number 23 BMS Scuderia Italia GT car from the fifth round classifications of the FIA GT Championship

Drivers Matteo Bobbi and Thomas Biagi thought they had set a new record for a major sportscar series, by winning every round of the first half of the championship, when they won at Donington Park in June. Celebrations were curtailed, however, when their Ferrari 550 Maranello failed post race scrutineering.

Stewards ruled that there were modifications in the engine bay area, essentially strengthening material bolted to the engine block, which were outside of those allowed by the regulations.

A statement issued by the FIA today (Wednesday) reads: "Having heard the explanations of the parties and examined the various documents and other evidence, the court annulled the decision of the stewards and reinstated car No. 23."

The pair maintain their championship lead with 50 points, ahead of Bryner, Livio and Calderali (on 24 points each) in the Care Racing Ferrari. The BMS team extends its championship lead to 73 points, 34 ahead of second-placed Lister Racing.

The Zwaan Racing team was not so fortunate in Tuesday's Paris hearing. It's appeal, after the No. 18 Chrysler Viper was excluded from second place, was turned down.
