Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki win Ordos World GT1 race one for Marc VDS Ford
Marc VDS Racing's Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki secured their third qualifying race victory of the year with a straightforward drive in the opening part of the Ordos GT1 World Championship event
The Ford duo led from start to finish, with Makowiecki opening out a comfortable advantage over JRM Nissan's Peter Dumbreck in the first stint. Dumbreck's team-mate Richard Westbrook chipped away at Martin's lead after the pitstops, but the leader always had enough in hand.
Jamie Campbell-Walter and David Brabham came through from fifth on the grid to complete the podium in their Sumo Power Nissan. Their team-mates Nicky Catsburg and Enrique Bernoldi looked set for fourth until the charging Stef Dusseldorp started hounding Catsburg in the closing stages. Dusseldorp finally made it past with a lap to go to secure fourth for the Hexis Aston Martin he shares with Clivio Piccione.
Third-place starter Marc Basseng (All-Inkl Lamborghini) lost several positions in the first stint, and his team-mate Markus Winkelhock had to settle for resisting the second All-Inkl car, the #8 Young Driver Aston Martin and the second Hexis Aston for sixth.
But Basseng and Winkelhock still gained some ground over their title rivals Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm as the JRM Nissan duo lost a lot of time in the pitstops and finished only 12th.
Young Driver Aston pair Tomas Enge and Alex Muller relinquished their sixth place on the grid when a rapid pre-race engine change was not quite completed in time. They were finally classified six laps down after a long pitstop late in the race.
