Fassler sees off Wendlinger for pole

Marcel Fassler and Jean-Denis Deletraz will start this afternoon's FIA GT qualifying race at Bucharest from pole position in their Chevrolet Corvette

Fassler came out on top of the qualifying session after trading fastest times with Karl Wendlinger's Jetalliance Aston Martin.

Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp will share the front row with Fassler/Deletraz, nearly a second clear of Michael Bartels, who took third spot with a late effort in his Vitaphone Maserati.

Mike Hezemans set the fourth best time in the second Phoenix Corvette, with Anthony Kumpen fifth despite a crash in the Peka Racing Saleen.

Xandi Negrao completed the top six in the second Vitaphone car, ahead of Alex Muller's Jetalliance Aston and Christophe Bouchut in the Selleslagh Corvette.

Allan Simonsen qualified ninth after having to abandon his car midway through the session following a spin.

Gianmaria Bruni again put his AF Corse Ferrari 430 first in GT2, with Andrew Kirkaldy nicking second in class for CR Scuderia at the end of the session.

Few flying laps were completed in the GT2 session thanks to spins from Matteo Malucelli and Markus Palttala.

Fabio Babini was third fastest in the Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari, ahead of Matias Russo in the Advanced Engineering Ferrari.

The quickest Porsche, the Felbermayr car of Richard Lietz, was only fifth fastest.

This afternoon's 60-minute race will be a non-points scoring event and will just decide the grid for tomorrow's race.
