Yoong warns of kerb danger
Team Malaysia driver Alex Yoong has warned that the high kerbs at the Monterrey circuit are likely to play a big part in the outcome of Sunday's A1 Grand Prix race
Yoong has experience of the Mexican venue from his season of racing Champ Cars in 2003. The track, which runs through Fundidora Park in the city, is renowned for being tight and dusty.
"It's really slippery here and you have to be really careful with the kerbs," said Yoong. "The wings on these cars are low and it will be easy to break them, just as it was in Durban. There aren't many to go round, so maybe the team with the most will be doing well on Sunday..."
But series 'new boy' Patrick Carpentier, who has replaced Indonesia feature race winner Sean McIntosh at Team Canada, added that the kerbs have been flattened in places since he raced here in Champ Cars. "They've changed the kerbs and they are better than they were," he said.
"Before, if you missed a chicane and hit them, you would destroy the car."
