Wilson hits testing trail
Former Jaguar and Minardi grand prix driver Justin Wilson got his first run with his new Champ Car World Series team, Mi-Jack Conquest Racing, last week
Wilson drove one of Conquest's Reynard at Homestead last week, as the team was still working on its Lola in its Indianapolis workshop. The Englishman reportedly took some time to get accustomed to his new ride, including having to adjust to a different body position, but ended up setting competitive times in comparison to Forsythe Racing, which was also present.
"I thought it went quite well," said Wilson. "I was just getting used to the car at first, but once I did, I felt really good. The main thing for me was the seat position. You are more laid down in these cars than you are in F1, but it's actually quite comfortable once you get used to it. I think with a little more seat time and more time with the team, we'll be fine."
At Forsythe, defending series champion Paul Tracy was joined by team-mates Patrick Carpentier and Rodolfo Lavin, while Wilson's team-mate Alex Sperafico was also on track.
"We all had a good test, we made a lot of changes on the cars over the week and got a lot of miles in," said Tracy. "The car felt really good and was balanced pretty well. It's hard to say exactly how the car will feel until we get to Long Beach and see what the track conditions are like, but we feel pretty good."
