Warm-up: Brack's warning
Kenny Brack served notice that he will not easily cede his CART championship lead to Gil de Ferran. The Swede posted the fastest time in the final warm-up session for Sunday's Champ Car round at Houston
Brack will start today's race third, within striking distance of pole man de Ferran. The Penske driver set the fifth fastest time in the 30-minute Sunday morning session.
Toyota is looking particularly strong in race trim, with Vancouver winner Roberto Moreno second, rookie leader Scott Dixon third, and Jimmy Vasser fourth. Vasser has been fast all weekend, but a silly pit lane practice crash on Saturday and a penalty held over from the previous road race left him 24th on the grid.
Also regaining their form on Sunday morning were Newman-Haas drivers Christian Fittipaldi and Cristiano da Matta, who ran sixth and seventh in their Lola-Toyotas. Toyota-powered cars took six of the top ten spots.
Fine weather is expected for this afternoon's race, with low humidity and temperatures around 22 degrees C. Conditions will be somewhat warmer than they have been over the last two days, so getting heat into the tyres should not be as much of an issue as had been feared.
