V8Star: Mutsch wins at EuroSpeedway

Thomas Mutsch (Team MIS) won the fourth round of the V8STAR at the EuroSpeedway. The 23-year-old from Bitburg beat reigning champion Johnny Cecotto, who drove a storming race from 15th on the grid, and Kris Nissen into second and third places

"I am really happy," said Mutsch, who is up to fourth in the overall standings. "Usually, I am driving hard and aggressively, but today, it has paid off to wait." Former F1-driver Cecotto has every reason to be happy, too: the Venezuelan is now sole points leader, after previous joint leader, Pedro Lamy, missed out on a possible win when he collided with Kurt Thiim as the pair came in for their mandatory pitstops.

Thiim had been setting the pace for a long time, but then was pushed out of the lead by Roland Asch. For his error, Asch was given a stop/go penalty and eventually finished eighth. Lamy's car had a damaged air intake after his shunt and he came home a disappointing 10th.

The result means Cecotto now heads the championship with 119 points, six ahead of Robert Lechner, who finished sixth. Lamy is third on 111.
