US GP inside line

As the F1 season reaches the halfway point at Indianapolis this weekend, it is hard to look beyond Michael Schumacher. At Monaco and in Canada it was realistic to expect Michael to have genuine challengers, but expect the USA to give him an eighth win in nine starts this year

Schumacher starts an overwhelming 2-5 favourite but Ferrari fans should look closely at team mate Rubens Barrichello, who is quoted at 15-2. An each- way bet would still give you 3-2 for a Ferrari driver at Indy in the top three!

As usual, qualifying looks like everyone's best chance of getting the better of Ferrari, but it's by no means certain. The Williams drivers reckon they should be pretty strong again in Montreal, if not quite as strong as in Montreal. Ralf Schumacher is quoted at 16-1 for a second successive pole, while team mate Juan Pablo Montoya is at 14-1. For a top three finish, Ralf is available at 9-2, which is worth some serious thought.

BAR Honda should be well suited to the Speedway, with Jenson Button 5-1 for the pole and Takuma Sato 12-1. Giancarlo Fisichella is a regular contender for points these days, often coming through on a two-stop strategy, and the Italian is still offered at 6-4 for Indy.

Among the other potential points scorers, if lower down the order, are Toyota and Jaguar. Cristiano da Matta would have given Toyota a second helping of points in Montreal but for the brake duct problems, and the Brazilian is quoted at 7-2 for Indy, with team mate Olivier Panis at 9-2, the same price as Jaguar's Mark Webber.
