Update: Tracy penalised for blocking

Champ Car World Series leader Paul Tracy has had his provisional pole position for the Molson Indy race at Vancouver disallowed after he was judged to be using blocking tactics late in the session

After meeting to consider the allegations made by rival teams, CART stewards decided to penalise the Canadian by disallowing his fastest time from the session.

The action demotes Tracy to third place, on the strength of his second best lap of 1m01.862s (103.644mph) and positions him behind Newman Haas team-mates Bruno Junqueira and Sebastien Bourdais.

CART Champ Car officials penalised Tracy following violations of Rule 5.4.8 of the Champ Car Rule Book which states: "During qualifying sessions, drivers not running at full qualifying pace should be aware of overtaking drivers, and should give way to all overtaking drivers."

Junqueira's lap of 1m01.845s (103.672mph) now becomes the provisional pole-winning lap. Junqueira will also receive the championship point for leading the session, giving him 125 and narrowing his deficit to 14 points behind Tracy.
