Unser out and de Ferran and Moore in
Former CART champion Al Unser Jr is out of the Penske team next year
Joining the team will be two of the series' hottest competitors, Gil de Ferran and Greg Moore, who have both signed three-year contracts.
Team owner Roger Penske said, 'We're excited about this. Both of these guys have been pursued by other teams.'
De Ferran has won poles at Japan and Toronto this season, and won the race at Portland. He goes into Sunday's race in seventh place in the championship standings
Moore, whose contract with the Player's Forsythe racing team ends at the end of this season, won from pole at the season-opener at Homestead. He currently lies eighth in the series standings.
'They're both at the very top of their games, Penske said. 'They're certainly the type of drivers we'd like to have driving for us.'
Unser said of his departure, 'We've had great success with Marlboro Team Penske. It really wasn't that hard of a decision, because Roger is a friend of mine and supports me. This is another corner we're taking.'
Unser has won the FedEx Championship Series Championship twice, in 1990 and 1994. But things have been downhill his last championship title, and he hasn't won a race since 1995.
