Tracy tops Denver warm-up
Paul Tracy confirmed his pace on the standard compound Bridgestones this morning in Denver when he set fastest lap in warm-up by almost 0.7 seconds
The Forsythe Championship Racing driver in fact set several laps that would have put him top, to outpace Newman/Haas Racing's Sebastien Bourdais.
Tracy, who will start fourth for the race having as usual underperformed on the soft compound red tyres in qualifying, is optimistic that there are enough passing places to make him a major player for victory this afternoon.
Pole-sitter Bourdais was a mere 0.007 seconds faster than the third place man who was the remarkable Jan Heylen.
Admittedly, the Belgian was scrubbing in a set of red tyres, and he had a couple of trips into the run-off area, but the Dale Coyne Racing driver has at least proven his qualifying performance (he will start only 14th) was unrepresentative.
Fourth fastest this morning was Tracy's teammate AJ Allmendinger, a gnat's ahead of second Newman/Haas driver Bruno Junqueira.
Britain's Justin Wilson had a lurid spin to set sixth quickest time.
