Tracy signs 5-year Forsythe deal

2003 Champ Car World Series champion Paul Tracy will remain in the series until at least the end of 2011, after signing a five-year extension to his contract with Forsythe Championship Racing

Tracy, who revealed his contract negotiations in his exclusive autosport.com column last month, said today: "I consider this an extension of a good relationship.

"I'm comfortable with the team, the team is comfortable with me, and they've been accommodating as far as my trying out other types of race car."

Tracy admitted that the encouraging signs of reunification between Champ Cars and the Indy Racing League were a major factor in his committing himself to single-seaters, but also stated that it was a decision based on driver satisfaction too.

He said: "In recent weeks I've tried stock cars and Grand Am cars, but Champ Cars is still what I love to do. I love to road race. If the reunification happens that will be great, and I want to be part of that landscape."

Neil Micklewright, general manager of Forsythe said: "We're very happy with this. Paul's professionalism is the greatest I've ever experienced and his skill, and enthusiasm mean he will continue to be, in my opinion, the best driver in Champ Car racing.

"The additional benefit, of course is that by having a long-term relationship with a driver of Paul's calibre and fame will certainly not harm our ability to attract partners."

Tracy confirmed that Jerry Forsythe, team owner, will continue to allow him to try extra-curricular forms of motorsport.

Paul added however: "My main focus will be Champ Cars, but I would think it's fairly likely I'll do the Daytona 24 Hours again next year."
