Tracy poised to re-sign

Reigning Champ Car World Series champion Paul Tracy is staying put for 2005 rather than heading for the NASCAR Nextel Cup, according to his team boss Gerald Forsythe

Tracy poised to re-sign

Tracy has been tipped for a prime NASCAR drive with Richard Childress Racing should Robby Gordon, a former single-seater star, quit his seat in the #31 Chevrolet to drive for his own team. But Forsythe is adamant that Tracy is going nowhere, as he told speedtv.com.

"I don't know who started that rumour but I'll give them 10-1 odds," said Forsythe. "I had a nice meeting with Paul and his agent recently and he's excited about the future. Paul has been one of our most vocal supporters and I appreciate his position."

Tracy was approached by Childress to drive his #30 Chevrolet in the Nextel Cup road race at Sears Point earlier this season, but admitted on Monday that he's staying put in Champ Cars.

"We've come to an agreement but we just don't have it on paper yet," said Tracy. "I'd like to get this deal together and I should know for sure within the next couple races."

Asked if he still had aspirations of NASCAR, especially if the stock car set goes to Montreal, Tracy replied: "Maybe, if the right deal came along but I'd like to stay in Champ Car. It's always been my home and I like the direction our new owners are taking it."
