Team Portugal confirm Albuquerque

Team Portugal have confirmed that Filipe Albuquerque will race for the team for the next two A1GP seasons

The 23-year-old finished on the podium on his series debut at Durban, South Africa this year and impressed the team with a string of good results. He has been announced as Portugal's main driver until the end of the 2009/10 season.

"I can only feel honoured for the chance I have been given to continue representing my country," he said. "A1GP is extremely competitive and I'm sure that it will reach new heights in the coming seasons."

Portugal's team principal Luis Vicente believes Albuquerque gives the nation an opportunity to win the championship.

"We feel privileged to be continuing with Filipe for the next two seasons," he said. "He is extremely fast and talented, as well as very mature and professional. With that in mind, this is the ideal scenario and I can assure fans that we'll do everything possible to win A1GP for Portugal.

Vicente also confirmed that the team will continue their technical partnership with Team Great Britain.

"The biggest challenge for the upcoming season will be adapting to the new A1GP Powered by Ferrari car," he added. "We believe the team is up to the test of dealing with a far more advanced car from a technological perspective, and hope to be one of the top contenders for the championship."
