Stoneman tops Brands Hatch practice

Dean Stoneman set the fastest time of the opening practice session for this weekend's Formula 2 round at Brands Hatch

It was tightly-packed at the front though, with the first three cars covered by less than one tenth of a second.

Tom Gladdis was second fastest on his return to the series, having missed all four rounds since the season opener at Silverstone.

Philipp Eng - a winner at Brands last year - was third, just 0.073s slower than Stoneman.

Sergei Afanasiev, Ivan Samarin and Benjamin Bailly completed the top six, while championship leader Jolyon Palmer was only 14th.

New face Julian Theobald was 13th in the first session of his F2 debut, while Dutchman Kelvin Snoeks is forced to sit out the weekend after breaking his ankle in a scooter accident.
