State-of-the-art spectator screens for ALMS
The American Le Mans Series will debut an innovative new system of video display boards at its Atlanta GP over June 27-29, and will use them for all its remaining events in 2003. Replacing the older text scoreboards, five full-colour graphic displays will be placed around the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta circuit. Developed by Special Event Productions in Clemmons, NC, they will be interactive with the ALMS Radio Web, allowing fan contests and other activities
"These new displays are yet another innovation developed just for the fans," said ALMS president Scott Atherton. "Not only will they be much larger and easier to read than before, but the technology will permit us to connect the fans with the action on the track in a way never before possible, giving them a window into the entire event weekend."
The new displays will serve as scoreboards during practice, qualifying and race sessions, giving complete field rundowns by class and overall. When the ALMS cars are not on the track, the boards will display series class descriptions (with images) and car and driver photographs, along with items to help fans understand the events, including up-to-date schedule information, track maps and point standings. Also displayed will be ALMS sponsor and local track information, all in an easy-to-read format.
