Schuey: CART needs time in Europe

Ferrari Formula 1 star Michael Schumacher has doubts that Champ Car racing can be a success in Europe, despite Germany hosting the US-based series for the first time this weekend

According to this week's Autosport magazine, the world champion thinks Formula 1's domination of motorsport in Europe will make it hard for CART to make an impact, even with ground-breaking races at Germany's Eurospeedway Lausitz and Britain's Rockingham Motor Speedway next week.

"I don't think it is a very well known championship to some degree, so I think the impact has to build up over the years," said Schumacher. "In Europe, F1 is so strong because there are many European drivers and each country has a kind of symbol it can cheer on.

"We know F1 in America is not well known, so now [with] an American series coming to Europe I think you'll find the same effect."

The German CART race at the Eurospeedway Lausitz is due to take place this Saturday, if it is not cancelled in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the USA that took place on Tuesday.
