Sainz targets Nurburgring return
Two-time World Rally champion Carlos Sainz says he would like to return to the Nurburgring 24 Hours next year after enjoying his first endurance event at the weekend
The Spaniard finished second in class in a Volkswagen Scirocco, shared with with three other drivers including Nordschleife legend Hans-Joachim Stuck.
"This race weekend really exceeded my expectations," said Sainz. "The Nordschleife, the many fans, and the fantastic car. If the opportunity presents itself again then I'd love to be a part of the team again next year."
Stuck, who also did stints in Volkswagen's lead Scirocco which won the class, was also delighted with the event, especially as he didn't expect to race at the Nordschleife again after taking up a role within Volkswagen.
"It's a very emotional win for me," he said. "I didn't want to race any more, but this one-two is absolutely fantastic. The car was just as quick at the end as it was at the beginning and I've only ever seen that with a few race cars."
