RoC organiser praises Wembley
Race of Champions organiser Fredrik Johnsson is convinced that the event's first trip to Wembley this year will deliver the best spectacle in its 20-year history
The RoC is moving from the Stade de France in Paris to the British venue and, although the new stadium is smaller, Johnsson is convinced that it will make for a more intimate event.
"It (Wembley) is five metres less wide and 20 metres less length," said Johnsson on stage at the Autosport International Show. "But we can retract the grandstands in two areas, which should compensate for that.
"And the Stadium itself is actually nicer than the Stade de France. Even the spectators at the top levels are closer to the action. The atmosphere is going to be even better than the Stade de France."
Johnsson has also revealed that he turned down offers from Germany and America before deciding on Wembley.
"I think it is the ideal place for us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the RoC," he explained.
"We were contacted by the Berlin Olympic Stadium where they had the football World Cup final and the Miami Dolphins stadium where they hold the Superbowl in a couple of weeks, but in the end Wembley is probably the world's most legendary stadium."
