Priaulx eyeing more sportscar races

Andy Priaulx says he enjoyed his American Le Mans Series outing in Petit Le Mans last weekend and would like to race in sportscars more often

The triple World Touring Car champion's GT2 BMW was delayed by an oil leak in the race at Road Atlanta, but he is looking to contest the event again - and possibly more endurance races - in future.

"It is nice to vary," said Priaulx. "It is really important to take yourself out of your comfort zone because you have to think out of the box and that makes you better at what you do. I want to keep improving, and you see the likes of Allan McNish here and he has done well for himself and that's somewhere that I would like my career to go."

"I think it is going to be down to BMW and what they plan to do in the future, but I can see things going more in that direction and that makes me feel really excited actually. I really enjoy the endurance side of racing and I enjoy the sort of rhythmic style."

When asked whether he would be interested in racing in the DTM if BMW were to join the series in 2011, Priaulx said: "Oh yeah, for sure. Driving a faster car with more downforce... I enjoy world touring cars, but I don't enjoy the constant rule changes. In the last couple of years that has been really against me and BMW.

"DTM would be great, GT racing would be great as well. But I would also be happy to stay in the World Touring Car Championship. It is really tough. The top 15 guys are really close."
