PKV Racing confirm Servia

PKV Racing have confirmed the signing of Oriol Servia to drive their second car in this year's Champ Car World Series

As predicted by autosport.com, PKV have chosen experience over youth in their search for a teammate to Katherine Legge, having tested a host of young drivers during the off-season.

The Spaniard took his first Champ Car victory last season while filling in for Bruno Junqueira at Newman-Haas, and team co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven believed that Legge should be partnered by a seasoned driver.

"After analysing all the data, we felt the best move for the immediate and future success of the team and our sponsors, was to sign a veteran driver," Kalkhoven said.

"Oriol had a tremendous season last year and has proven he can compete for the championship. We believe that Oriol's skill and knowledge will not only be an asset to the team, but will significantly help in the development of Katherine Legge."

Servia believes he can work well with his new teammate.

He said: "I think Katherine and I will work very well together and we will be competitive on the track. I feel very lucky and very happy to have been selected. This is a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to continuing the success that I had last year.

"PKV Racing is an outstanding team with veteran leadership from Jim McGee, who I have a lot of respect for, and Jimmy Vasser, who I was hoping would be my teammate, but is now going to be my boss."

Vasser is set to compete in a third car at Long Beach before hanging up his helmet to concentrate on team management.
