Pizzonia confirmed at Rocketsports

Rocketsports Racing have confirmed that Antonio Pizzonia will race for them at Long Beach next month, as the team attempt to get their Team Brazil concept off the ground

The former Formula One driver tested for the team alongside countryman Enrique Bernoldi at  Houston's 2.4-mile Motorsport Ranch road course earlier this month.

However, team boss Paul Gentilozzi admitted then he was in a race against time to put the deal together for the all-Brazilian team for the season opener on April 9th.

Rocketsports have now confirmed that Pizzonia will race the #8 car in at least the first event, with further sponsorship details for the car to be announced.

Pizzonia will join the team on Saturday at Housten for further pre-season testing.

"I am very happy about the opportunity that Rocketsports has given to me," said Pizzonia. "The test this weekend will be very important for me and the team as we prepare for the first race.

"I obviously need to get more familiar with the car, as it was my first time in the cockpit of a Champ Car when I tested with the team in Houston a couple of weeks ago."

The team have yet to confirm if Pizzonia will have a teammate. Bernoldi and Super Aguri third driver Franck Montagny have been linked with the seat.
