Pescarolo take pole at Istanbul

Reigning champions Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Cristophe Bouillion placed their #17 Pescarolo Judd on pole position for the opening round of the Le Mans Series at Istanbul

Collard's lap of 1:40.266 was less than a tenth of a second quicker than his nearest rivals, Nicolas Minassian in the new Creation prototype.

Early practice session had been run in wet conditions, however the track dried out for the 50-minute qualifying session.

A1 GP team bosses Alex Yoong and Jan Lammers were third quickest in their Racing for Holland Dome Mugen, ahead of the top LMP2 runner, the RML Lola of Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton.

The GT1 pole position was taken by reigning FIA GT champions Labre Competition. Labre are this year running an Aston Martin DBR9 in the LMS series, with their 2005 drivers Gabriele Gardel and Pedro Lamy. Belgian Vincent Vosse also joins the team.

Collard and Bouillion clinched last year's title at the same circuit back in November in a treacherously wet race.

Current forecasts for tomorrow's 1000-km race predict cold and changeable weather conditions again.
