Penske take second win in a row

Penske duo Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas took their second consecutive victory in the American Le Mans Series, winning the Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas after a hard-fought battle with Andretti Green Racing

"Last year we led the race here and had a technical problem; we were thinking it would be different this week," Dumas said after the race. "Timo wasn't too sure at first, but I think he likes it now.

"It's really great and it's a big deal. Before the race we knew that the car was quick, but we have to think about the championship for the class and not overall wins."

The Penske pair also won last weekend at Long Beach, and were able to bring their Porsche RS Spyder today to the finish line tonight by a lead of just 0.49 seconds ahead of Bryan Herta and Marino Franchitti.

"It was exciting," said Herta. "I was looking for some traffic to help me get up to the Porsche. It would have been more fun if I had won. This car is so good. This is only its fourth race but it's incredible."

Third overall, and first in the LMP1 class, were the Audi R10 duo of Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish - 1.341 seconds behind the LMP2 Porsche.

The pair were looking certain for a an overall win, however, before Capello suffered a puncture on his left front tyre.

"For all practical purposes that put us out of the race," McNish said. "But Rinaldo drove fantastically to get us close to the two leading cars at the end. It was a very good race with four cars fighting for the lead in the end."

In the GT1 class, Corvette Racing pair Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen took their first victory together in eight years, beating teammates Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, who had won the previous three races.

"You have to tip your hat to our engineer," O'Connell said. "We went the wrong way before qualifying and then changed it significantly and I was able to turn laps faster than in qualifying.

"I had amazingly good in laps and a great out lap. It was enough to get us out front. We've had so much rotten luck with the No. 3 car, and I'm glad to get this win."

Jaime Melo and Mika Salo won the GT2 category for the fourth race in a row, bringing their Ferrari 6.4 seconds ahead of The Flying Lizard Porsche of Johannes van Overbeek and Jorg Bergmeister.
