'No confusion' over UK track racing restructure
Contrary to reports yesterday, no confusion exists over the implementation of the Motorsport Strategy Development Group restructure of UK circuit racing, the CEO of the MSA told AUTOSPORT PROFESSIONAL this morning. "The MSA does not and cannot negotiate with the championships directly," said Colin Hilton. "This is, and will continue to be, the role of the clubs
"As far as the series are concerned, no promoter may submit an application for a championship permit direct to the MSA - they have to go through their organising club. This has always been the way, and the revisions to the structure of circuit racing do not have any impact on the administrative structure of the sport.
"As for the deadline mentioned in the Motorsport News article, this is not a date that was introduced by the MSDG recommendations. In this year's regulations, any championship wishing to be considered for a permit for 2004 has to make its application (through one of the clubs) by July 1. These submissions are then to be considered by the Race Championship Control Panel on July 9, after which the RCCP has until the autumn to finalise the championship structure for 2004.
"It was hoped that the Control Panel would have been able to consider applications to form part of the new structure of Pro-Racing championships at the same time. If this proves not to be possible, it is not significant.
"Motor Sports Association and its major organising clubs - the BARC, BRSCC, BRDC and 750 Motor Club - are working together to shape a healthy future for the sport."
