Montagny eyes more Peugeot outings

Franck Montagny says he is still waiting to hear how many races he will contest for Peugeot this year, but hopes to make the French squad's LMP1 programme his main priority

Last season Montagny's only appearance for Peugeot was at the Le Mans 24 Hours, and he spent the rest of the year in America - finishing second in the Champ Car finale at Long Beach and racing Andretti-Green's Acura in the second half of the American Le Mans Series.

Peugeot have yet to announce full details of their 2009 programme, and at present their only confirmed race is Le Mans. In 2008 the team also entered the full Le Mans Series, as well as the Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans.

When asked at the Autosport International show whether there was a chance he would contest additional races for Peugeot this season, Montagny replied: "Yeah a big chance, I think, we'll see.

"I am with the team for 2009, I don't know exactly what my programme will be, I don't know what I'm going to do, but I'm really dedicated to winning Le Mans and if to win Le Mans I have to do many races before, I will.

"If it's to do many races with Peugeot, I will give 100 per cent priority to Peugeot over anything else."

But Montagny added that he hoped Peugeot would only race at events where they had competitive opposition. Their arch-rivals Audi have withdrawn from the LMS and are only entering Sebring and Le Mans.

"It has to be something useful, to do a Nurburgring race for example with nobody against us I think is useless, but if it's useful I think it's good to do it, like Sebring," said Montagny.

The Frenchman said yesterday that he is also hoping to fit in some IndyCar Series races with AGR, with the Indianapolis 500 at the top of his list.
