Mirko Bortolotti will start from pole position in race two at Brands Hatch
Formula 2 points leader Mirko Bortolotti has secured pole for the second race at Brands Hatch
The Italian took advantage of a quiet spell on the track 10 minutes into the session to put on new tyres and reel off a quick succession of fast laps, culminating in a 1m15.730s effort.
His advantage over his rivals was 1.4s when he returned to the pits, and while most of the gap was eventually eroded, it was never bettered. Ramon Pineiro came closest when he fell 0.1s short.
Yesterday's race winner Jack Clarke will start from third alongside Miki Monras, with Tobias Hegewald and Alex Brundle on the third row.
Several drivers' hopes of improving their times were ruined when Thiemo Storz spun into the gravel at the Clark Curve with eighth minutes remaining, prompting a red flag.
The session restarted with four minutes on the clock, but with the tyres having cooled off in the meantime, few drivers took the opportunity to return to the circuit, and those that did made little impact on the final order.
