Mansell hopes Hill joins GPM
Nigel Mansell is hoping fellow British Formula One world champion Damon Hill will choose to join Grand Prix Masters for their race at Silverstone this month
As revealed by autosport.com, 1996 world champion Hill is considering joining the single-seater series for retired Formula One drivers in the race at Silverstone this month.
He has discussed the idea with Mansell, who has dominated the maiden two races held so far in the series.
The pair were also briefly teammates at Williams for four races in 1994, when Mansell returned to the team after two years in IndyCar, in the wake of Ayrton Senna's death. Hill was also Williams' test driver while Mansell was winning his F1 championship in 1992.
Hill said last week that his main motivation for considering the series was to race Mansell in equal machinery again, and Mansell would also relish the opportunity.
"Somebody with the calibre of Damon joining the series would be fantastic," Mansell told Motorsport News.
"I hope he doesn't get cold feet. Grand Prix Masters is a great brand and there is camaraderie between the drivers. They are tough cars but very enjoyable to drive."
Any announcement is expected in the coming days.
