Maktoum accuses Mosley of bias
A1 Grand Prix founder Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher bin Maktoum al Maktoum has accused FIA president Max Mosley of bias, after the latter trivialised the A1 GP series in a recent interview
Mosley dismissed the A1 GP self-proclaimed concept of being the 'World Cup of Motorsport', saying the series lacks star drivers.
But Maktoum responded by saying the series has already become one of the most watched sports around the world and said Mosley was biased against the A1 GP.
"It is very unfortunate when the president of the FIA, who is supposed to be neutral, becomes biased against one of the series that is under his jurisdiction," the Dubai Sheikh said this weekend during a visit to Shanghai, where he is promoting his series ahead of next month's Chinese round.
"A1 has its own stars and we have already surpassed a lot of our goals so far. It is a big achievement considering that we have only been in operation for six months."
According to Maktoum, A1 GP has a global television audience of 20 to 30 million viewers per round. If true, the ratings would make the series one of the ten most watched global sports. In contrast, Formula One claims an audience of 350 million viewers per race.
