Magazine: Raikkonen interview and Goodwood SpeedWeek

Kimi Raikkonen is now the most experienced Formula 1 driver of all time, but he's renowned for not being the most garrulous character in the paddock

Magazine: Raikkonen interview and Goodwood SpeedWeek

So it was with understandable trepidation that Alex Kalinauckas set off to interview him in the Monza paddock.

But what resulted was true Raikkonen on form, and the in-depth interview with the Finn is the centrepiece of this week's Autosport magazine. The 2007 world champion discusses his career, and what makes him tick away from the track, as well as what he might - or, more specifically, might not - do when his time in the cockpit comes to an end.

And, to the relief of Kalinauckas, there is a Raikkonen giveaway of irritation and boredom that never surfaces during the interview...

Accompanying this, Kevin Turner delves into Raikkonen's F1 career to present his best 10 races, and it's especially interesting to remember some of the drives from his early days at McLaren that made him such an exciting young prospect.

From the old man of F1, to the old cars of Goodwood. This week's main report comes courtesy of Marcus Pye from the West Sussex venue's COVID-enforced experimental SpeedWeek, which was an attempt to harness the best elements of the Festival of Speed, the Revival and the Members' Meeting.

As ever, some of the racing was sensational among the machinery of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but few expected one of the highlights to be a gripping race-long battle in the SF Edge Trophy, with the newest car in the leading four-bolide slugfest being 104 years old...

As well as that, our resident Australian Andrew van Leeuwen brings us the highlight of the country's domestic racing calendar - the legendary Bathurst 1000 - as the famous Holden marque bowed out of factory participation in motorsport, there's action from the prestigious Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, plus the latest instalment of the series no one seems to want to win: MotoGP.

All this is accompanied by our usual variety of national motorsport action, topped by the ever-entertaining Historic Sports Car Club's championship finals day at Silverstone.
