Luyendyk aims for Indy title

Two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk's chances of scoring a third success in his swansong year have got off to a good start. Despite not having driven a single-seater since the end of last year, Dutch-born Luyendyk posted the third fastest time in testing for the May 30 race in a Treadway Racing G-Force-Aurora

Speeds were 4mph faster than last year's 223.503mph pole lap, despite strong winds.
Luyendyk said, 'You can do really fast times around here in this wind, but you can't tune the car. Since the wind is so strong you have to adjust your line and the way you drive, which could vary depending on the way the wind blows.'

Team Menard's Greg Ray headed the speed charts. He lapped the 2.5-mile oval nearly 3mph faster than second-placed fellow Texan Billy Boat. Ray said, 'We did well, but we're a long way from qualifying trim.'

1 Greg Ray (Dallara-Aurora) 227.072mph
2 Billy Boat (Dallara-Aurora) 224.456mph
3 Arie Luyendyk (G-Force-Aurora) 224.215mph
4 Scott Sharp (Dallara-Aurora) 223.547mph
5 Eddie Cheever (Dallara-Infiniti) 223.292mph
6 Sam Schmidt (G-Force-Aurora) 223.281mph
