Legge 'not happy' with eighth

Britain's Katherine Legge scored the best grid position of her four-race Champ Car career at Milwaukee today, but believes she should have been even quicker

The PKV Racing rookie, who has regarded qualifying as her weakness so far this year, will start tomorrow's race from eighth on the grid, on the same row as vastly experienced teammate Oriol Servia.

Legge said: "The guys worked very hard with me on the set up from Friday morning to get to this point this afternoon. And to be honest, the car was so awesome that I reckon I could have been further up the grid. I just think I got off the throttle too early. The car was actually really good on turn in, but I wanted to be sensible."

She also admitted that the shunts that have happened to some of her rivals over the last two days contributed to her prudence. Servia, Nelson Philippe (CTE Racing), Cristiano da Matta (Dale Coyne Racing), Alex Tagliani (Team Australia) and Bruno Junqueira (Newman/Haas) have all crashed here this weekend, at the only oval race on the Champ Car calendar.

Said Legge: "It's not like it's inexperienced guys who have had the problems. They're some of the best guys in the series. So as a rookie, that certainly gives you a healthy respect for this circuit. You have to play it a little bit cautious and be sensible, otherwise it will bite you."
