Junqueira and Minassian learn Laguna Seca
Multiple CART champion team Chip Ganassi Racing has given its new European signings Bruno Junqueira and Nicolas Minassian their first taste of the testing Laguna Seca road circuit in California
The two stars of last year's FIA Formula 3000 Championship - Junqueira narrowly beat Minassian to the title - completed 340 miles of the undulating track, renowned as one of the most testing layouts in the United States.
"This track really tests a driver's skill," Junqueira said. "Each corner is very different, and it took me awhile to perfect my turns. This test was helpful. I felt like I improved with every lap. The next time I drive here, I'll be ready for it."
Minassian agreed: "This track is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. The elevation change at the corkscrew felt like a roller coaster ride! It took some getting used to, but I'm enjoying these new challenges. And this area is so beautiful. I'm very excited to return and spend more time here."
Despite encountering a couple of minor technical niggles on the Toyota-powered Lolas, Ganassi Racing's managing director Mike Hull was pleased with how the test went.
"This was our first natural road course test this winter, so we focused our attention in the morning on allowing Bruno and Nicolas to learn the circuit," he said. "During the afternoon session, Bruno and Nicolas were able to open it up and really get a feel for racing on this road course. They both made great strides."
The outfit's next session has been booked at the ultra-fast, two-mile California Speedway oval in Fontana on January 15.
