Janis set for Champ test

Czech Jaroslav 'Jarek' Janis has been called up to test a Dale Coyne Racing Champ Car this week - and may even make his race debut in the series before the end of the season

Janis, who drives a Mercedes-Benz for the Team Rosberg in the DTM touring car series, is driving one of the team's Lolas for two days at the Putnam Park road course in Indiana after a brief run in a Formula 3000 car at Brno last week to re-acclimatise to single-seaters.

"I am really looking forward to testing a Champ Car," Janis said. "It will definitely be an exciting experience. I don't know the track; I've heard it's quite twisty, but I'm not worried about that."

The 21-year-old is hoping to land a drive in the season-ending Surfers Paradise and Mexico City events, although Coyne is believed to be unwilling to field three cars in the long-haul races.

Any opportunity would presumably come at the expense of Argentinian journeyman Gaston Mazzacane, rather than the much quicker Oriol Servia, who has impressed with a series of strong performances for the underfinanced team and lies ninth in the points standings.
