ITR confirms Shanghai DTM street race
ITR, the promoter of the DTM, has confirmed that it will stage a non-championship 'invitation' race meeting for its 4-litre V8 'silhouette' touring car series on a temporary street circuit in the Pudong district of Shanghai in July, following an invitation from the city's government and the Chinese motorsport authority
The event was originally mooted for Shanghai's new, state-of-the-art F1 track, but the initiators of the event, including the Shanghai municipal government and the Federation of Automobile Sports of China, have decided to utilise the street lay-out.
"The DTM is pleased to accept the offer to stage a city race in Shanghai," said ITR principal Hans Werner Aufrecht. "This is a decisive step in the development of the DTM. This is certainly the most significant race in the series outside Germany.
"Shanghai is a fascinating metropolis of the utmost economic significance and personifies the rapidly growing Chinese market. It is something quite special to be able to stage a DTM race in this exciting place in front of tens of thousands of spectators. The invitation underlines the increasing international significance of the series as the blue-riband event of touring car racing."
