Italian government role for Montezemolo?

Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo will leave the company to pursue a political career in Silvio Berlusconi's Italian government, according to Italy's Tuttosport. He has reportedly been offered the role of either Minister of Sport or Foreign trade. Montezemolo is unhappy at the sale of 34 percent of Ferrari to Mediobanca, and has already admitted he is considering his future

A marquis by birth, Montezemolo studied commercial law at La Sapienza University in Rome, then gained a Masters at Columbia in New York, before joining Fiat. He was placed at Ferrari in 1973 and began running the F1 team a year later, aged 27, overseeing Lauda's title seasons in 1975 and 1977.

He then became the youngest senior manager in the history of the Fiat empire, and successively ran the La Stampa newspaper, the Cinzano drinks company and Juventus football club. He took time out when he was asked to organise Italia 90, the soccer World Cup. After a spell running RCS Video, he returned to Ferrari in 1991 to become its CEO, and to take some of the credit for its resurgence in its Schumacher era.
