Hill: I want to race Mansell

Damon Hill has revealed the possibility of racing against Nigel Mansell in equal equipment is the main motivation behind his talks with Grand Prix Masters

As revealed by autosport.com, the 1996 world champion is considering joining the single-seater series for retired Formula One drivers in the race at Silverstone next month.

He has discussed the idea with Mansell, who has dominated the maiden two races held so far in the series.

The pair were also briefly teammates at Williams for four races in 1994, when Mansell returned to the team after two years in IndyCar, in the wake of Ayrton Senna's death.

Hill was also Williams' test driver while Mansell was winning his F1 championship in 1992.

"I am very tempted by the series," Hill told Motorsport News. "I have spoken with Nigel about the series and it sounds exciting.

"I have never really had the chance to take Nigel on properly in Formula One because the timing just wasn't quite right.

"In fact, I spent most of my early career being a test monkey for Nigel and so I would love to get out there and give him a run for his money. I have just passed the lower age limit for the series, so I would qualify.

"It has been quite some time since I have been the youngest driver on the grid for any race, so that would be novel."

Organisers have not confirmed whether Hill will join the series, but have promised an announcement on an additional driver for Silverstone in the coming week.
