Head pleased with progress of F2 car

Williams F1 director of engineering Patrick Head says he is pleased with the progress of the new Formula 2 car ahead of the opening race of the season next month

Head, who designed the F2 car, admitted that it was a big job to get 24 of the cars ready in time for the beginning of the season but expects them to be finished on schedule.

"I was hugely impressed with what I saw when I went to see the assembly process, and it was great to see the car reach the speeds and targets specified at the design stage," said Head.

"Williams obviously has a vested interest in the F2 project and I'm very keen to see it get off the ground and have a fantastic start.

"There is still a lot to do but there is confidence that they will get the job done. We will be keeping a close eye on the championship and help them out where we can."

The pre-season Formula 2 tests will take place at Snetterton on May 5-6 and Silverstone on May 18, ahead of the first race at Valencia on May 30-31.
