Gidley, Meira to race for Highcroft

Highcroft Racing have recruited IRL IndyCar Series frontrunner Vitor Meira and former Champ Car driver Memo Gidley for their Petit Le Mans driver line-up

Team owner/driver Duncan Dayton usually shares the Highcroft Lola-AER with experienced sportscar ace Andy Wallace, but Wallace is moving across to the Dyson Lola for the Road Atlanta event.

Gidley has raced in Grand-Am this season, while Meira achieved impressive IRL results with the cash-strapped Panther Racing team.

Highcroft is one of the three teams chosen to run Honda's new Acura prototype in 2007, so will be a prime target for drivers seeking a top sportscar ride next season. Meira and Gidley will therefore be keen to impress on their team debut.

Other notable additions to the Petit Le Mans entry include Le Mans Series champion Emmanuel Collard joining Penske Porsche, and Champ Car legend Sebastien Bourdais making another guest appearance in the Multimatic Panoz.

The prototype field is boosted by the return of the Zytek, Creation Autosportif, and B-K Motorsports teams, plus the addition of the Van der Steur Radical and Horag Racing's Lola.

However the GT1 entry remains slim for Petit Le Mans, with just the factory Corvettes and Aston Martins participating.
