Garza to race for Mexico at Zhuhai

David Garza will replace Michel Jourdain in Team Mexico for the A1GP round at Zhuhai next weekend

Garza, who raced for the US RaceTronics team in the Champ Car Atlantic championship this year, spent two days driving a Formula Renault V6 car at Phakisa, South Africa, under the supervision of Les Jones, technical director of Team Craft, which operates the Team Mexico entry.

Towards the end of the test got within 0.05 seconds of the FRV6 lap record.

"We've taken a very tough decision here today," declared Les Jones. "Michel [Jourdain] has been doing a good job so far, but after what David has shown us these last few days, I think he deserves the opportunity to represent his country in the A1GP.

"David has shown a lot of courage and resources especially in the high speed corners that are extremely important in A1GP. He has the speed and the necessary talent to do a good job, but especially he is committed and wants to do it, and that's very important."

Jones added: "He is a very professional young man, he knows how to listen, he learns fast and he is open to any suggestion, so this makes me calm with the decision that we're taking."

Garza has already signed for Forsythe/Pettit Racing's Champ Car Atlantic squad for next season, and hopes to graduate to Champ Car in 2009.
