Ganassi: Montoya will stay in the US
CART series champion Juan Pablo Montoya will be racing in the category next season, according to team Chip Ganassi.
The Colombian, who won this year's Champ Car title in his rookie season, has been tipped to replace Italian Alex Zanardi at the Williams Formula 1 team.
However, Ganassi, who runs the team which leased Montoya from Williams in a two-year contract, is adamant he will be racing for the team in 2000.
'Some day it's possible maybe,' he said, 'but not next year.'
Other contenders thought to be in the frame for the F1 drive include BMW test driver Jorg Muller, Formula 3 star Darren Manning, F3000 racer Bruno Junqueira and former Grand Prix driver Jos Verstappen.
Muller, Manning and Junqueira all tested with the Williams team at Jerez this week.
After getting his first taste of a Formula 1 car, Manning - who scooped $100,000 after winning all four international F3 races in Macau and Korea last month - claimed he felt ready to make the move into F1.
