Ganassi buoyant after Toyota test
Triple CART champions Target Ganassi Racing are buoyant about their chances of taking a fourth consecutive title after completing their first test with new engine partner Toyota
Both 1996 champion Jimmy Vasser and reigning title holder Juan Montoya raved about the performance of the new package after a week of testing.
'I was impressed with how well the car and, in particular, the Toyota engine performed,' said Vasser.
'We have really good momentum heading into 2000 and the new season.'
'I couldn't feel any major changes in the car and that's a good sign,' added Montoya. 'I'm very excited about the Toyota engine.'
Chip Ganassi was equally pleased with the test. There was speculation that his team would lose their place at the top of the CART pile after switching to the previously uncompetitive Toyota engine, which has yet to win a race in four seasons.
'The Toyota engine was flawless, both Jimmy and Juan were very happy,' Ganassi commented. 'I was also pleased with the interaction between our team and the Toyota people.
'It's clear that we have the same goal, and we're willing to learn how to work with each other. We went fast, so I have no complaints.'
